Electronic cigarettes are a relatively new invention and
there is a lot of misinformation floating around
regarding these devices. There
are a lot of myths regarding e-cigarettes circulating the internet and people
don’t know how to separate the facts from the myths. In this article we are
going to go over some frequently asked questions about electronic cigarettes to
help bring some light to the myths that are being spread around.
Do Electronic Cigarettes Cause Cancer?
One of the most common anti-smoking campaigns is that
smoking can cause cancer. I’m sure that you have been told that exact same
thing several times throughout your life, even if you don’t smoke. People are
scared of smoking because they believe it will cause cancer. But is that true?
Well, smoking regular tobacco cigarettes have been linked to cancer but what
about e-cigarettes? Discover more info at the page http://ecig-reviews.net/are-electronic-cigarettes-safe/.
The FDA collected 18 electronic cigarettes from various
companies and tested each one for a chemical called diethylene glycol. The
chemical can be found in regular packets of cigarettes and it has been linked
to cause cancer in patients. On top of that, the same e-cigarettes contained
small amounts of nicotine nitrosamines which have also been linked to cancer.
Out of the 18 electronic cigarettes that were tested, two contained traces of
harmful chemicals.
The press got a hold of this, blew it out of proportion, and
the first myth regarding e-cigarettes was born. The truth of the matter is that
the amount of harmful chemicals in electronic cigarettes is 1,700 times less
than the amount found in regular FDA approved cigarettes. Yes, the chemicals
have been known to cause cancer, in extremely high doses. However, the vast
majority of electronic cigarettes do not contain any harmful chemicals, and the
ones that do, contain an extremely small amount, which is not toxic.
Can E-cigarettes Help You Quit Smoking?
The answer depends on
what aspect of smoking makes you keep coming back for more. Some people are
addicted to the gesture of smoking, holding the cigarette, and inhaling. Other
people are addicted to the nicotine buzz. When it comes to quitting any vice,
it is much easier to gradually quit. Electronic cigarettes make it easy to quit
smoking. Because you can gradually decrease the amount of nicotine in each
cartridge until you are no longer addicted to the chemical.
There is a lot of bad press regarding electronic cigarettes,
but the press likes to blow things out of proportion. Hopefully now it will be
easy for you to spot myths at a glance.
